For advanced students, this 2 days Workshop covers the whole process as used by many of todays professional manufacturing Jewellers.
The objective is to give students a full overview of lost wax casting techniques with hands-on projects.
The workshop is held on two Thursdays consecutively. 9.00 am till 16.00 pm.
Only one Workshop in 2010! Date: March 4th and March 11th 2010
Tuition Fee: $ 320.00 ( Discount available for suncoast gem Club members)
Materials required:
Some Silver sheet + wire to make a metal master, filing wax to carve wax models.
About 100 grams of Silver to be cast. Your normal set of handtools.
Possibly some nature objects like Gum-nuts to be cast..
One or more Gemstones to be set (Not essential)
Using brand new equipment, we will cover the complete lost wax casting process:
1. Model making / wax carving
2. Vulcanizing of models / making rubber moulds
3. Injecting wax in rubbers to produce Multiples
4. Setting up wax "Trees"
5. Investing the Flasks using high temperature investment powder Cristabolite
6. The Burnout process
7. Final stage: Melting with the Oxy Torch and casting precious metals using the vaccuum machine
8. Cleaning the castings
9. Final Finish, setting Stones....Polishing
